TODDLER TO YEAR 6

40+ YEARS SHAPING THE YEARS THAT SHAPE A LIFE.

THE FORMATIVE YEARS OF CHILDHOOD ARE WHERE EVERYTHING BEGINS. ELC EXISTS FOR EXACTLY THIS WINDOW.

ONE SCHOOL, ONE JOURNEY. CHILDREN BEGIN AT THE PURPLE ELEPHANT FROM 18 MONTHS, AND CONTINUE INTO THE CITY SCHOOL THROUGH YEAR 6, SAME BELIEF, SAME APPROACH, THE WHOLE WAY.

HOW WE TEACH. THE ELC WAY.

We begin with the image of the child. Every child is born a researcher, curious, capable, and full of questions long before anyone sets out to teach them.

A child asks a real question, not always in words. What makes soil alive? We take that question and build a year of learning around it, through science, maths, literacy, and the arts. The child goes on a journey of discovery and research: they dig up the soil and study it under a microscope; they wire and code the sensors; they build and test a watering system.

This is Project, and it is the heart of our learning. Project changes every year, because it begins with the children’s own questions. Reading, writing, and mathematics are taught with full rigour in their own right, and Project turns that knowledge into something children think with.

None of this happens by chance. Behind every question is an expert educator who knows the child, knows what they need to learn, and knows when a question is worth following, and when to bring it gently back. The curiosity is the child’s, the expertise is ours. Every day, we observe and record how a child actually thinks, so that thinking, not just its results, becomes something you can see.

This is made possible because our spaces are curated with intention through the eyes of the child. The environment itself teaches. We are small by design, twelve to fourteen children per class, so every child is known by name, by personality, and by the way they learn.

This way of teaching has a lineage. For decades we have worked in the Reggio Emilia tradition, blended with the rigour of the Ontario curriculum, one unbroken path from our youngest children’s first questions to the sensors our oldest children wire themselves. This is the ELC Way.

12 to 14 children per class

We honour each child as a born researcher, and get to know who they are and how they learn.

02 — Project

Creation, synthesis, investigation

Learning anchored in their own questions, explored with full rigour. This teaches children how to think, not just what to think.

03 — Thinking, made visible

Studios, labs, and research spaces in one

Every single day your child’s thinking is observed and documented, so learning becomes something they can see too.

CHILDHOOD IS THE FOUNDATION OF A LIFE.

This is our belief. The formative years of childhood shape a life. We cherish them.

For over 40 years, ELC has specialised in these years, not as a stepping stone to bigger schools, but as the cornerstone everything else is built on.

Neuroscience is clear: the early years are the most important for brain development. ELC is purpose-built for exactly this window.

We are intentionally small, so we can know each child and family deeply. Rooted in the Reggio Emilia approach and the Canadian Ontario Curriculum, we fit the school to the child, not the child to the system.

INSPIRING ENVIRONMENTS FOR MEANINGFUL LEARNING

One journey, five campuses. Children begin at The Purple Elephant, our toddler campuses, and continue seamlessly into The City School for kindergarten through Year 6. Same belief, same approach, one continuous path from eighteen months to eleven years.

Our five boutique campuses in Thonglor and Nichada Thani offer an intimate, nature-infused setting where children learn, play, and connect, spaces designed with the same intention and care as everything we teach. Lush gardens, research ateliers, and thoughtfully designed play areas make each campus a place that inspires hands-on learning and meaningful connection.

Three things define how this works every day:

Inquiry-led learning

Children explore big ideas through questions, investigation, and reflection. The curriculum starts in the moment before the answer.

Project-based experiences

Extended projects connect disciplines and build real-world problem-solving skills. A single thread held across weeks becomes something a child understands at depth, not surface.

Educators who listen before they teach

The teacher's first role is to observe, to notice what a child is already thinking before deciding what comes next. That is what makes learning here genuinely responsive rather than delivered.

HOW WE BEHAVE, DECIDE, AND DESIGN. EVERY DAY.

Guiding principles turn belief into daily practice. They’re what make our Vision and Mission real.

Start with the image of the child

We view every child as a born researcher, full of agency and potential. Trusting their capability is our starting point for everything we build.

Safety first, free thinking follows

Physical safety is just the baseline. We build a school where children feel deeply safe, seen, and valued, giving them the courage to wonder, take risks, and fail safely.

Curiosity drives the rigour

Real learning begins with a child’s own question. We pair their innate wonder with expert academic guidance to turn curiosities into deep, rigorous Project work.

Protect each child's pace

We never compare one child to another. We track individual pathways and potential, giving every child the time they need to flourish.

Build learning together

Knowledge is built through relationship, between children, educators, and families. Educators teach alongside children, observing closely and responding to what each child needs in the moment.

Beauty is not decoration

Beautiful and intentional environments are a form of pedagogy, inviting care, attention, and wonder. In this sense, the environment itself becomes a teacher.

WHAT DOES AN ELC CHILD LOOK LIKE AT YEAR 6?

Not a set of certificates. A way of being.

They ask questions that make adults stop and think. They are comfortable not knowing the answer yet, because they have learned that not knowing is where the thinking begins.

They collaborate without losing themselves. They care about the quality of their own work because they have learned what it feels like to do something well.

They move to their next school curious, grounded, and ready for whatever comes next.

This is what 40+ years of watching children grow has shown us: when a child is truly known, deeply challenged, and given space to become who they already are, something remarkable happens.

This is what they leave with, and what it gives them.

"WE CAN ALWAYS TELL WHO THE ELC KIDS ARE. THEY'RE THE ONES WHO NEVER STOP ASKING QUESTIONS."

— Unsolicited observation from an administrator at NIST

READY FOR LIFE. NOT JUST THE NEXT SCHOOL.

The future does not need children who can recall information. It needs children who know what to do when the answer isn’t there yet. At ELC, we focus on internal preparation: the qualities that cannot be outsourced or automated.

Solid academic foundations, built through depth and understanding. Emotional intelligence, agency, and independence. The readiness to move to any school, any country, and feel at home.

When our children are ready to move on, they go where they choose: NIST, ISB, Bangkok Patana, Shrewsbury, or top schools around the world. We prepare children for learning, not for admissions.

We work closely with every family, through our Compass Initiative, to find the right next school for their child. Almost without exception, our children are offered their first choice, especially in Year 6.

INCLUSION BY DESIGN. SUPPORT AS A WAY OF BEING.

At ELC, inclusion means shaping the environment so every child can participate, connect, and thrive. It is action, adapting learning in real time to the child, because learning only happens when children feel they belong.

Inclusion is not a programme, added afterward, it is how we design the school.

Our Student Services and Wellbeing team brings together learning support, EAL, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, play and art therapy, all working as one integrated team.

Support includes:

THE DOVE PROGRAMME AT ELC

The Dove Programme is a specialised pathway within the full ELC learning community. It offers personalised learning in a joyful, Reggio-inspired environment where children feel capable and supported. It is woven into school life, not separate from it, so every child experiences real belonging.

What sets it apart:

Every child in the Dove Programme experiences themselves as a capable learner, known and supported by a community that believes in them completely.

Belonging is the foundation. Everything else grows from there.

SEAMLESS TRANSITIONS, LIFELONG CONNECTIONS

Settling into a new city is effortless at ELC. Our centrally located campuses in Bangkok’s most family-friendly neighborhoods offer easy access to housing, vibrant communities, and city conveniences. Each day, parents walk their children to class and connect on the grounds designed to be a welcoming space that fosters friendships and a strong sense of belonging. ELC parents chose us deliberately, so did our teachers. Children, parents, and educators act as co-creators here, and that shared conviction is our strongest advocate.
