UPCOMING OPEN HOUSE

Meet ELC: three sessions, one journey

The formative years of childhood shape a life. We cherish them.

We envision a school built around the child: where every child is known, understood, and valued, where childhood is given the time and space to flourish, and where the foundations we build give children the confidence to explore, to take risks, and to build lives of meaning and consequence.

It is one unbroken path, beginning with the questions our youngest children ask through play, and deepening year by year, until they are the ones wiring the sensors and testing the ideas. See where that path begins, at Purple Elephant, and where it leads, at The City School.

Children who grow up on this path leave with curiosity, the confidence in their own voice, kindness in working with others, and the love of learning that a life is built on.

The Purple Elephant 49 and Samakee Open House

At The Purple Elephant, we believe every child is born a researcher. Long before they can explain what they’re curious about, they are already testing, watching, and asking. What looks like play is real thinking, disguised as play. Our role is to notice those wonderings and turn them into discoveries, in spaces built with the same care and intention as the ideas inside them.

On the day, you’ll see:

  • How curiosity turns into Projects, small inquiries a child returns to and builds on, again and again
  • How a child’s own wondering shapes what they learn
  • Spaces built with beauty and intention, where every corner is designed to make a child stop and look twice
  • The educators who know when to follow a child’s wonder and when to guide it, and how they document that thinking so you can see it too

The same questions that begin as play at Purple Elephant grow into something more. A real question, what makes soil alive, becomes a year of learning: the science, the maths, the literacy, the arts. Children don’t just receive knowledge, they dig up the soil and study it under a microscope, they wire and code the sensors, they build and test a watering system. This is Project, and it is the heart of learning here.

On the day, you’ll see:

  • Reading, writing, and mathematics taught with real rigour, then put to work inside Project
  • A child’s own question shaping a year of interdisciplinary learning, weaving science, literacy, mathematics, and the arts into one investigation
  • The educators who know when a question is worth following and when to bring it gently back
  • What your child carries forward: the confidence to explore, to take risks, and to build a life of meaning and consequence
