The children at ELC are provided with a wide array of experiences to support their learning to a deep level. At times, meaningful experiences require the children to explore the wider community around us in Bangkok through a field trip. Families are asked to provide permission for their child to participate in short field trips during normal school hours that may occur during the year. As always, all precautions for safety are taken, such as a high level of adult supervision, every child having a seat belt in vans and buses, and a first aid kit always being on hand. Detailed information will be provided to families prior to each trip.

Physical Education classes are held at sports facilities nearby the school throughout the year. The classes at PKFC Sukhumvit 71 are taught by PE staff from ELC. Swimming class is scheduled on a one 11-week block per school year. Swimming classes are being held at Bangkok Dolphins, Racquet club Sukhumvit Soi 49. The classes are taught by qualified and experienced instructors from Bangkok Dolphins. Swimming is a mandatory part of the ELC programme and may only be missed with a medical certificate. For all classes held off school property, the children will travel by school bus and are accompanied by the ELC staff member. The school buses are equipped with seat belts and each has a bus monitor as well as the driver. There is no change to your child’s usual pick-up arrangements at ELC campus. Those children riding the school bus home do so as usual.

At ELC we are committed to providing a safe environment for all our children and expect the same conduct from visitors as we would expect from our members of staff. By entering our campuses you are agreeing to follow the rules of conduct outlined below and to having positive interactions with staff and children during your visit. At ELC we take safeguarding children seriously and have expectations that children will be kept safe and that any concerns of child neglect, abuse or inappropriate conduct by either children or adults will be reported.

Rules of conduct:

• Be respectful in your behaviour, use calm communication and follow the school rules
• No taking of images/videos of children unless a main community event
• No posting of images/videos of children online
• No form of physical, verbal or sexual violence is acceptable; this includes physical punishment or rough handling of your own child
• No carrying of weapons on the premises
• Avoid being alone with a single child unless in an agreed situation and be visible at all times
• Use the visitor designated toilets at all times and avoid the children’s toilets

• Report any concerning behaviour that you see to the school office
• Do not give out your personal contact details to any children
• Avoid naming children or talking about other children in a public forum including on Whatsapp groups or any form of social media
• Be respectful when communicating in person, by phone or by email at all times

Children in Year 3 are given the opportunity to begin learning an instrument in school alongside their classroom music lessons.
The lessons will be given in small groups, will be 30 minutes long, and delivered by musicians who are specialist in the instruments they teach.

What instruments are offered?
The instruments we can offer are Violin, Cello, Guitar, Flute, Clarinet and Recorder. Children will be given a demonstration lesson in the first week of term and then be asked which they may be interested to learn. We will then try to allocate a favoured instrument as best as we are able with the stock we have. Children study one instrument for the whole school year.

How much does it cost?
There is no extra cost for these group lessons as they are included in the school fees for one year. They are offered to give all Y3 ELC children an opportunity to learn a musical instrument as part of their education. (Note that should you wish them to take individual lessons on top of these lessons outside of school hours this is available at an additional cost).

Do we need to buy an instrument?
The school has a stock of instruments that will be loaned to children for the duration of Y3. Parents are only responsible for the cost of any damages to or loss of the instrument.

How can I help my child do well on the instrument they choose?
The best approach is very similar to improving reading, little and often. Even 5/10 minutes a day will aid improvement. We encourage children to make the most of the opportunity offered by doing some work at home.

How does this affect other music in school?
These lessons are being offered to enhance the musical opportunities for children at ELC. All children will continue to attend their twice-weekly singing, Orff ensemble and appreciating music classes.
