THE DOVE CENTER

THE DOVE CENTER

The City School is renowned for fostering inclusive learning environments for children with diverse learning needs. The Dove Center, a new initiative, is specifically designed to support children requiring a more specialised learning environment than the mainstream classroom can offer. This environment enables every learner to thrive, develop skills, and reach their fullest potential.

At The Dove Center, we prioritise each child’s best interests. Our programming is meticulously crafted to create a vibrant and nurturing learning environment uniquely tailored to children with high support needs.

This pioneering initiative seamlessly incorporates cutting-edge technology, individualised teaching methodologies, and a dedicated team of educators, learning specialists, and therapists to create a supportive and enriching educational experience.

Key features of the program include adaptive learning tools, sensory-friendly spaces, and personalised curriculum plans, designed to address each child’s strengths and challenges. By fostering a collaborative approach that brings together teachers, therapists, families, and the children, we strive to cultivate a nurturing community where children can flourish, and parents are an integral part of their child’s educational journey.

Our ultimate goal is to empower these high-support needs children with the confidence, independence, and knowledge necessary for learning and personal success. Through this more intensive and comprehensive support system, we aim to help each child achieve their goals and become a well-rounded individual with essential life skills.

April Beresford

The Dove Center will open to children in August 2024 and is led by April Beresford. With 25 years of expertise as a disability specialist, April holds a Master’s degree in disability studies from Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario. She has dedicated her career to supporting high-needs children in international schools, residential facilities, and vocational schools. Over the years, she has developed extensive knowledge in art therapy, music therapy, positive behaviour support, and play-based interventions. These methods promote child engagement, enhance communication skills, and encourage social skill development. April’s holistic approach fosters independence and confidence in every individual she works with, ensuring they reach their full potential in diverse educational settings.
